FIRE-RESISTANT INSULATING GLASS
Fire-resistant insulating glass is heat-insulating safety glass that slows the spread and spread of fire. This type of glass offers protection against high heat development, flames and toxic smoke fumes in a fire situation and extends the escape time so that everyone can leave the building safely.
FEATURES OF FIRE-RESISTANT INSULATING GLASS
Fire-resistant double- or triple-glazing is constructed with at least one fire-resistant component that has a fire-resistant coating or a special intermediate layer that limits temperature rise and/or heat radiation on the non-fire side. To ensure safety, fire-resistant glass must comply with a European standard, which allows three different classifications: E, EW and EI.
Class E has to do with flame resistance (the glass must not break or crack in the event of a fire), class EW has to do with radiation reduction for a certain time in which (sealants must not allow flames and smoke to pass through) and class EI is about temperature insulation (the glass forms a heat-insulating shield). Fire-resistant glass with EI classification offers the highest level of protection against flames, smoke and heat.
APPLICATION
Fire-resistant insulating glass is often used and, in some cases, is even mandatory in both new and existing buildings. For example, to guarantee safety in public buildings or day-care centres. We also see more and more fire-resistant insulating glass in residential construction.
