SOUND-PROOF GLASS
Soundproof glass ensures that sounds from outside do not penetrate, or penetrate much less. This also works the other way round: noise in the interior is much less audible from outside. The glass contains a special foil that reflects sound waves and therefore blocks noise without restricting light.
CHARACTERISTICS OF SOUNDPROOF GLASS
The main feature of soundproof glazing is the special pvb film (polyvinyl butyral) in the glass, which reflects sound waves. Soundproof glass is tested for decibel reduction. According to the European standard, the soundproof performance of a pane of glass is indicated in Rw. By comparison, standard double-glazing has an Rw index of 29 dB, while soundproof double-glazing reduces noise by up to 50 dB. In general, the thicker the glass, the better it blocks sound.
APPLICATION
Soundproof glazing is desirable in any living or working environment where there is noise pollution. Soundproof glass is used in new buildings, but increasingly high standards of sound insulation are also required when renovating homes and offices. Soundproof glass is available in both single and double (insulating) glass. Soundproof insulation glass has the added advantage that, besides optimal acoustics, it also has important heat-insulating properties.
