MARTIN GLAS PROVIDES ALL GLASS SOLUTIONS FOR RITAKERK IN BOZKANT
The Rita Church in Boskant actually had to make way for new homes. Until architect Hans van den Tillaart of LA architects came up with the idea of realizing homes in the church. For example, the church was preserved and 14 social rental homes were realized in the center of the village. Martin Glas supplied all glass solutions for this special project.
A BEAUTIFUL CHURCH
“It is a beautiful church in a special village. Boskant is a new reclamation village that was built between Best and Sint Oedenrode. The village got a school, a café and a simple church, the Rita Church.” Hans van den Tillaart was immediately enthusiastic about the church building. “It is a very simple church, but it has been treated very carefully over time.”
NOT A STANDARD CONSTRUCTION PROJECT
“It looked like the church would have to make way for housing,” he continues. “Then I took a sketch to the housing association to show what we could make of it. They responded enthusiastically and the municipality was also positive about my plan. Together with Bouwbedrijf Van Stiphout, I further developed and realized it.” That worked out well, says Van den Tillaart. “If the church had been demolished, there might be a standard building project now. It is great that we were able to keep this, also for the population of Boskant, because young starters can stay in the village this way.”
SOCIAL RENTAL HOUSES
Construction company Van Stiphout built 14 social rental homes with one floor and an attic in the church. The inside of the building has therefore received a major adjustment, but the outside has been maintained as much as possible, Van den Tillaart emphasizes. “We actually turned the central entrance into a new internal hall. This is the internal access for the various houses, one house has been realized per bay.” Fire-resistant glass supplied by Martin Glas has been used in this hall. These include Pyroguard Impact and Pyroguard Maxi, cuttable fire safety glass offering integrity and radiant heat reduction for 30 and 60 minutes.
STAINED GLASS WINDOWS
The stained glass windows were retained, says Van den Tillaart. “We installed an insulating shell on the inside of the church and made the new window frames in it. So we actually made rear windows here. Clear glass has been placed in it and the stained glass has remained in front of it as a kind of filter.” Martin Glas supplied standard HR glass and HR laminated glass that is fall-through-proof for the exterior facades of the building. In total, this involved 75 m2 of fire-resistant glass and 130 m2 of HR glass. Martin Glas is no stranger to Van den Tillaart. “I already knew them, it is a large and well-known party. In this project they were hired by the contractor. They supplied everything in the field of glass in this project.”
